living computation / Dave Ackley

BURIAL GROUNDS

come on come on

a place we can spare
a physical space

to share with the
physical remains
of the dead but why

after the machine
has stopped, now
broken beyond repair

what of it then?
the broken machine
the switches the
motors the hair

yeah right just

install my body in
the lobby of
smithsonian

twas such a machine
read of its sights and sounds
bring your kids to see it now
in its burial grounds

BURIAL GROUNDS

come on come on

make a soup
make a stew
the heinlein
way to die

but who gets
of it to eat
and why?

holy schmaltz
yeah right

of what remains
and what of them?
the parts the pieces
the physical remains

to burn the meat away?
offends the chef in me
kinda sad I gotta say
culinarily

still it is not

that much better
left to rot

for what remains
and what of them

BURIAL GROUNDS

physical means for
virtual machines

yes virtual machines
in physical spaces

we can make the code
we can develop it and

if our code declared
say a special place
to sit or speak

that might get shared as
a useful code technique

an arbitrary place could do
just a point for rendezvous

but physical must it be?
only real space is anyplace
in actuality?

could not just a place
in the code, just a name
just a pointer to share
could it not carry the load
from all and to everywhere

A NAME TO CALL

just call

let it be code
the burial grounds let
the burial grounds be code

and yes of course it is
as code it always was

so what's different?
why now? well

the deployed
code base is
a little huger
than before and

 code channels are
 thicker and faster
 than ever

code can move
code can grow
so fucking fast today

okay okay the viral cliché
but a risen name can flow

if you believe in the code
(we believe in the code)

then come on
come on and sing

our code divine
all hail the quine
it's a way to align

with all and
everything

us to all and
all with us

do it say it

say it do it

 do it
 say it
     do

do it say it
say it do it

I did it nice I
said it thrice

you can't ship the
same code twice

oh yes we keep on changing
but the dead remain the same

the history is unbroken
for this earthen living game

the history stays unbroken!
as again we call the name

the collective power
of the deployed base
of machines and code
together
   that means us

our collective power
to remember or
dismember our own
collective power

control the channels?
we've lost control to
powers rich and vast

yet we still can win
we can still win by
controlling multicast

but for now it's grim and
getting worse if there's
hope we don't know when

wake up wake up
my friends awake

the goal of code is
to ship itself now
and forever then

by giving value
to receivers so
they will ship
the code again

all hail the quine!

do it say it
say it do it
do it say it do

BURIAL GROUNDS

or in a garden
